Write down what matters most
Before your consultation, make a short list of the concerns you want to discuss. Note when each concern began, what has changed and how it affects daily life. Start with the questions that are most important to you.
Bring the right information
Gather relevant prescriptions, earlier reports and scan images. Make a list of medicines, supplements and known allergies. If you have received care elsewhere, bring the records that explain that history.
Questions you can ask
- What does the assessment suggest, and is anything still uncertain?
- Why is a test or treatment being recommended?
- What alternatives should I understand?
- What should I know about possible benefits and risks?
- When should I return, and how will I receive any results?
- Who should I contact if I have questions after this visit?
Leave with a clear plan
Ask for clarification if instructions are unfamiliar. Keep the written plan and confirm how to arrange the next appointment. If you would like a family member or caregiver to join you, ask the hospital about the arrangements in advance.
